I live with you

I live with you

This week I read I live with You, by Carol Emshwiller. I’m not sure where this falls in terms of this week’s assignment, but I can see that the minority in this story was the woman who owns the house and the poor man who is her neighbor. The majority in this tale would be the person or thing that followed the women into her home and lives there in her attic. I know that the minority should be out the ones out number, but in this case this thing or person had almost all the control over the two characters in the story. It did what ever it wanted to do, took her clothes so she would have to wear what it bought her. Planted a note in a neighbor’s house so she can give the women a man. In the long run was it for the better, perhaps. It changed the women forever, making her live a fuller life out of the shadows, unnoticed. Did it necessarily reflect on the characters values? Not necessarily, but it didn’t abuse them, it made her life better.
The second story I read, Blood Child was a completely different. The aliens in that story were the majority and the humans were the minorities and their roles were that of well taken of hosts. They would treat the humans well and protect them from the outside world, but they would also confine them to only one small part f their world. They would try and create a bond with one family per alien, so that they would bare their children. It wasn’t crystal clear if the aliens were bad or if the humans should be thankful for what they have given them. This story in terms of value is defiantly in the grey area.
